Kreislaufplatz.Wien: Building Urban Resilience, One Neighborhood at a Time.
The Power of the Hyperlocal
We are a group of active citizens in Vienna who were tired of feeling powerless in the face of global challenges. We realized that solutions don’t just come from high-level policy—they come from direct, local action. Kreislaufplatz.Wien is our blueprint for building a resilient, regenerative urban future by empowering the smallest but most critical unit of the city: the neighborhood.
Our platform is not just a directory; it’s a digital nervous system connecting the regenerative forces already at work in our community.
I. Our Philosophy: The Regenerative Neighborhood Ecosystem
We treat our neighborhoods not as passive consumers, but as living ecosystems capable of producing, repairing, and thriving locally.
1. The Circularity Heroes in Our Midst
Our local tailors, cobblers, electronics repair shops, tool libraries, and community gardens are the backbone of a true circular economy. We provide them with the visibility and support they need to succeed, demonstrating that repairing and sharing are not niche activities, but the economic foundation of the future.
2. Financial Autonomy and Local Flow
We actively push to nurture local financing and community investment. Our goal is to ensure that local spending promotes regenerative growth and that our local economy is not held hostage by external, short-term capital that might find a better deal elsewhere. Money earned in the neighborhood must flow back into the neighborhood.
3. The Activity Impulse Effect
We believe that physical spaces matter. By showcasing local solutions and organizing community-driven initiatives, we ensure that the source of interest and activity remains within our quarters. This vital energy keeps main streets active and ensures no local storefront remains empty.
II. Our Action Platform: What We Organize
Kreislaufplatz.Wien acts as the central hub for Mutual Aid and Local Economic Empowerment in Vienna. We unify fragmented efforts across 4 key categories:
| Category | Focus of Action | International Equivalent |
| Repair & Skillshare | We promote skill exchange and facilitate Repair Cafés, Bike Workshops, and Textile Mending workshops to embed a repair culture. | Community Skill Exchange & DIY Centers |
| Food & Resources | We map Foodsharing Pantries and support Urban Gardening collectives to increase food security and reduce waste at the hyperlocal level. | Distributed Resource Sharing Networks |
| Sharing & Gifting | We host and connect “Buy Nothing” groups, Free Stores, and Tool Libraries, proving that neighbors’ capacity to give and share is the most powerful local resource. | Non-Market Mutual Aid Infrastructure |
| Community Spaces | We highlight local Co-Working spaces and Third Places (like language cafés) that act as vital social and economic meeting points. | Neighborhood Hubs for Collaboration |
III. The Call to Action (A Global Example)
We are an example of what happens when a community shifts from feeling powerless to designing its own environment.
If you are a regenerative enterprise, a mutual aid group, or simply an individual seeking sustainable solutions, our platform provides the map.
We invite the global community to study our model, see the measurable impact of hyperlocal circularity, and join us in proving that the future of the city is bottom-up, regenerative, and rooted in the neighborhood.
